CALIBRATION OF EDS-88 SERIES CAPANALYZERS AFTER REPLACING TEST LEAD ASSEMBLY ALWAYS DO CALIBRATION ADJUSTMENTS WITH FRESH BATTERIES! To replace the Pomona test lead unit: 1: Unscrew the four rear screws, remove rear cover and remove the pcb assembly, pulling the test lead slack through the front panel hole. 2: Unsolder the center and shield leads from the top of the board. Pull the old cable out from the front. Use a solder sucker or solder wick to clear the mounting holes in the pcb for the new cable. 3: Insert the new cable end through the front panel. Solder the center lead and shield, using a heat sink on the shield. The insulation will melt with even a small amount of heat and short out the coax, so the heat sink is necessary. 4: Set the ZERO and FULL trimmers fully to the left (counter-clockwise). Set the SET ALERT slider to zero (all the way down). Have a 22 ohm resistor handy. CALIBRATING EDS-88 ONLY: 5: Turn on the unit; it will chirp three times and immediately go into the ESR alignment mode and wait; one of the led bar segments will be on. Hold the tweezer probes across the 22 ohm resistor and adjust the FULL trimmer so the the bottom 20.0 ohm and 15.0 ohm led bars both come on together. 6: Quickly, before the CapAnalyzer resets, short the probe tips together and adjust the ZERO trimmer so that the 0.10 led bar just goes out, and only the top OHMS bar led is on. If you did not move the probe quickly enough, simply touch the probe across the resistor again briefly to start the test, and wait until the CapAnalyzer in in the ESR test (after the green OK led comes on) before quickly shorting out the probe tips again. 7: Touch across the 22 ohm resistor and make sure the 20.0 ohm ESR bar comes on. CALIBRATING EDS-88A ONLY: 5: Turn on the unit; it will chirp and go into the QuickESR test mode and wait; all leds will be off. Hold the tweezer probes across the 22 ohm resistor and adjust the FULL trimmer so that the second led bar from the bottom just comes on. 6: Short the probe tips together and adjust the ZERO trimmer so that the top led bar just dims slightly. 7: Touch across the 22 ohm resistor and make sure the 20.0 ohm ESR bar comes on. THIS COMPLETES THE CALIBRATION AND TEST PROCEEDURE
